Reading

Here at Troedyrhiw Community Primary School, we aim to develop a passion for reading. Each class has an inviting reading area with texts chosen by the children.  As well as this, we have well-stocked library designed by our pupils. We attend author events as well as inviting a range of authors in to school to meet with our children.

We use Read Write Inc to teach early reading skills. Our children work their way through Set 1, 2 and 3 sounds and their corresponding storybooks. Read Write Inc sessions are held daily and focus on phonological awareness, word time and story time throughout the week.

Reading Vipers are used to help develop higher order reading comprehension skills.

Throughout the week, each child reads with their teacher individually and as part of a guided reading group.

Our aim is to develop competent readers who can transfer their reading skills across the curriculum and in day to day life.
