Year 4 Miss Lewis

Year 4 went on a school trip on Tuesday 3rd March 2020 to Brecon Beacons Visitor Park as part of their topic "Survival in the Beacons".

They had the opportunity to take part in compass and map activities, they built shelters using tarpaulin and string and went on a walk around the area to make comparisons between the Beacons and Troedyrhiw.

What a fantastic day had by all smiley

'Let's Create' Week

We have had a very busy first week back in school. Throughout the school all classes participated in 'Let's Create Week',  with classes making a variety of things from IMovies to board games!

Year 4 decided to focus on the welsh artist Martyn Evans. We discovered that Martyn Evans is inspired by the beauty of the welsh valleys and we loved how unique and colourful his designs are. We decided to take a walk around our village to take pictures for inspiration and started our own  designs. We worked hard all week on our designs, practising Martyn Evans style. Then on Friday we held a gallery viewing on the Friday and invited our parents in to view our masterpieces!

Year 4 - Miss Lewis

Welcome to Year 4! This is what we will be covering in the coming Term. Homework is set on a Friday to be handed in on the following Wednesday. Spelling test will be on Friday. Spelling lists are inside homework books.

Our themes for this term are ‘The Victorians’ and ‘Children of the Revolution’ (Autumn 1):

  • English – Imovie presentation for local museum, story writing, persuasive letter writing, poetry.
  • Mathematics - The teaching of Maths does not link with the topic. However, there will be some activities in our topic work that focuses on using the key skill of Maths.
  • Children are tested on number work in Maths every Friday. We call this CLIC Maths.
  • The aim is that every child will know their tables and associated facts by the end of this year. The children do not have to learn them “One times nine is nine..” and so on. They can learn them in a variety of ways.
  • Science – The sustainable Earth, Interdependence of Organisms, How things work.
  • Art / DT – William Morris
  • Topic (History, Geography, Music) - Learning about life in Victorian Britain. We will investigate differences in life between rich and poor as well as social issues at this time including the industrial revolution.
